Bilingual Spanish K-12 Education Minor
|
|
The Bilingual Spanish minor prepares students to promote educational equity by making content curriculum accessible to students whose home language is Spanish and by supporting the maintenance and development of literacy in Spanish while simultaneously providing direct instruction in English language and literacy.
The Bilingual Spanish minor must be combined with a Spanish major. In addition, students are strongly encouraged to complete at least one of the following majors or minors: Elementary Education, English, Social Studies, Integrated Science, or Mathematics.
The required Spanish major may be waived for native speakers who successfully complete at least one 300-level Spanish course and are able to pass the Spanish Department proficiency exams, including the OPI/OPIc.

Major and Minor Requirements
A minimum grade of C (2.0) in SPAN 301 is required as a prerequisite for any concentration in Spanish. Programs for students wishing to major or minor in Spanish are worked out individually with the appropriate departmental advisor.
C. Slagter and D. TenHuisen are the Spanish secondary education advisors. A. Ceballos, S. Lamanna, and M. Rodríguez are the Spanish elementary education advisors. A. Ceballos advises the bilingual and ESL minors.
