CHEM 341 - Evolving Complexity

(1.5)
SP. How do you create increasingly large and complex molecules? Central to answering this question is the ability to control a reaction’s mechanism, product distribution, or material properties. This course will focus on the synthesis of complicated molecules. Synthesis encompasses a variety of strategies, such as total synthesis, biosynthesis, and polymeric synthesis. Special attention will be paid to asymmetric control of traditional organic reactions, particularly using catalytic methods, as well as the growing application of catalysis and synthetic methods for the generation of high-performance polymers. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 240  or CHEM 242 . Corequisite(s): CHEM 341L .
