FA. In this lab, students will perform hands-on experiments with the synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles. Analysis of the nanoparticles will be accomplished with various approaches, starting with UV-Vis spectroscopy. Students will explore the various components of a single-beam and dual-beam UV spectrometer and monitor the catalytic activity of nanoparticles by time-resolved UV-vis spectroscopy. Students will use additional instrumental techniques (FTIR, MP-AES, XRF) and visualization techniques (Atomic Force Microscopy, Image Analysis) to further characterize nanoparticles. Corequisite(s): CHEM 372. Lab fee: $195.
