EDUC 115 - Literacy Instruction for Beginning Readers

FA, SP. This initial course in the three-course literacy sequence focuses on understanding current research underlying key concepts such as phonics, phonological awareness, concepts of print, and reading fluency. These basic concepts are learned within the overarching context of all literacy instruction being focused on thinking, understanding and engagement. Teacher candidates deepen their understanding of these concepts through a 20-hour practicum with primary grade students in a linguistically diverse school. Prerequisite(s): EDUC 103 ; and EDUC 241  (may be taken concurrently).
