REL 331 - Theology: Theory and Method (3) An investigation of the nature, task, and method of the discipline of systematic theology. A review of the pre-modern history of the concept of theology serves as a prelude to the focus of the course: the status of systematic theology in the post-Enlightenment period. Issues discussed include the relationships of theology to church, academy, and society. Thinkers and approaches dealt with include Schleiermacher, Barth, Tillich, Lonergan, Pannenberg, revisionism, and post-liberalism. Prerequisite: REL 131 or an intermediate theological studies course. Not offered 2021-2022.
