PHYS 346 - Advanced Optics (3) SP, alternate years. The systematic application of Maxwell’s Equations to electromagnetic radiation, including the interaction of light with matter, electromagnetic wave propagation, polarization, interference and diffraction. Includes a study of technologically significant systems such as waveguides, optical filters and fibers, laser cavities, and some electro-optical technologies. Prerequisites: PHYS 246 and either PHYS 345 or ENGR 302.
