HIST 267 - Modern Europe (3) A survey of Europe from the Congress of Vienna (1815) to the present. Using 1945 as a pivotal year, the course examines the major social, economic, cultural, and political trends that dominated the continent and inspired the two world wars: nationalism, industrialization, militarization, secularization, protest movements, and imperialism. The balance of the course examines the changes and continuities that have characterized the post-war period: economic integration, the Cold War and its aftermath, immigration, decolonization, the tension between European unity and national identities, as well as the burden of Europe’s past. Not offered 2021-2022.
