GEO 385 - Internship in Geography and Geology (0-3) FA, SP, SU. This course is for students working in an internship involving professional application of the concepts and principles learned as part of the geography or geology programs. A student is placed in a government agency, a private firm, or a not-for-profit organization to work in an area such as geographic information systems, geologic mapping, subsurface investigations, museum operations, or urban and regional planning. On-campus interns work under the direct supervision of an appropriate Calvin supervisor. Off-campus interns work under the direct supervision of an employee of the outside agency or firm with additional oversight from the department’s designated faculty internship coordinator. Interns must maintain an internship journal and complete a written report summarizing their internship experience. The credit hours vary with the number of hours worked. Prerequisites: senior standing or permission of the instructor.
