Sports Communication Major

The Department of Communication offers the sports communication major, a multidimensional study of communication theory and communication practice in sports. Students will learn the relationship between sports and culture and how communication functions within sports organizations and society. Students will develop a strong theoretical and critical understanding of communication and will use this knowledge to create effective messages for their target audiences. Students also will develop the ability to communicate effectively through various media, adapting to the fast-paced changes in communication technology. In multiple courses and in the sports communication internship, students will develop the necessary professional skills to succeed in a variety of sports communication careers in social media, public relations, advertising, journalism, broadcasting, or community relations.
