German Minor: Elementary, Secondary Education

Students in teacher education must pass the test administered by the State of Michigan. They must also pass an Oral Proficiency Interview. A rating of Advanced-Low on the ACTFL Proficiency Scale constitutes the minimum required level of proficiency. For details and information on cost and scheduling see the chairperson. Additional criteria for approval for the teacher education program are listed on the Education Program website.

Program Requirements

GERM 301 - Advanced German Language and Culture
GERM 303 - Topics in German Literature
GERM 361 - Advanced Writing in Cultural Context
Three electives (at least 9 hrs) numbered 302 or higher
IDIS 356 - Introduction to Elementary World-Languages Pedagogy (elementary) OR
IDIS 357 - Introduction to Secondary World-Languages Pedagogy (secondary)

Total Semester Hours: 21

Note: German education minors are strongly encouraged to participate in an abroad experience in a German-speaking country. A semester abroad program, a summer course abroad or a summer work or internship program can meet this requirement.
