English Major: Linguistics Concentration
Return to: Academic Departments and Degrees
All English majors share a common foundation of coursework in linguistics, literature, and writing that effectively anchor learning in the integrated art, craft, and science of language. Students develop skills with which to engage story, practice interpretation, and experience the cultural and historical diversity of language and literature. Students choosing a linguistics concentration focus specifically on understanding how language works—from sounds to words to sentences—and on the ways language shapes and is shaped by culture; they have the opportunity to specialize in world languages, English as a second language, computer science, or speech pathology.
