The Access Program

The Access program supports students in their transition to college learning. Admission to become Access scholars is granted by the Committee on Admissions based on high school grades, high school coursework, ACT/SAT scores, recommendations, and other admissions materials. Enrollment for Access scholars is offered each year to a limited number of first-year students.

Selected Access scholars meet with a Center for Student Success advisor during Passport Orientation and take a mathematics and written rhetoric placement to determine an appropriate fall schedule. 

Access scholars:

•  take ASC 112 - Strategies for Academic Success  concurrently with a reading-lecture course during their first semester to build academic skills and mindsets to navigate college course work.
•  take one credit second semester such as ASC 110 - Learning Practices: Special Topics  or PER 141 - Rock Climbing I  to explore other areas of college life.
•  work closely with academic advisors and peer coaches to make academic progress in their first year at Calvin.
