Developing a Christian Mind
Transfer credit not accepted for Developing a Christian Mind (DCM).
Written Rhetoric
* Students must complete this requirement with a grade of C or better.
Foundations of Information Technology
* An exemption exam is offered each semester.
Rhetoric in Culture, Fine Arts
Health & Fitness 1 (Personal Fitness)
A student participating in a varsity or junior varsity sport for a full season is exempt from the corresponding category.
Health & Fitness 2 (Leisure & Lifetime)
A student participating in a varsity or junior varsity sport for a full season is exempt from the corresponding category.
Health & Fitness 3 (Sport, Dance, & Society)
A student participating in a varsity or junior varsity sport for a full season is exempt from the corresponding category.
Foreign Language, One Year
* High school exemption from foreign language requirement is possible. At least 2 years of high school foreign language (C or better each term) or one year of college foreign language will be required of students who are in academic programs that have reduced core curriculum requirements.
Historical Foundations
Students who take their Historical Foundations course in their first or second year are encouraged to take an introductory (100-level) course in world history. These courses examine general themes in world history from comparative societal perspectives. Upper-level students are encouraged to take an approved 200-level Historical Foundations course that suits their interests. These 200-level courses focus on a particular place and era or a particular topic.

* Students must take at least one of the religion core courses at Calvin College.

Global & Historical Studies
Natural World (Living)
* High school exemption from one Natural World course requirement is possible. Students who have taken at least 3 years of upper level laboratory high school science (excluding physical, earth or environmental science) with a grade of C or better are eligible for an exemption from either the physical or living Natural World core requirement. (Students must take one science core at Calvin College)
Natural World (Physical)
* High school exemption from one Natural World course requirement is possible. Students who have taken at least 3 years of upper level laboratory high school science (excluding physical, earth or environmental science) with a grade of C or better are eligible for an exemption from either the physical or living Natural World core requirement. Natural World, Two Course Sequence
* High school exemption from one Natural World course requirement is possible. (Students must take one science core at the college level). Students who have taken at least 3 years of upper level high school science (excluding physical or environmental science) with a grade of C or better are eligible for an exemption from either the physical or living Natural World core requirement.
Cross Cultural Engagement
*Students submit a contract form with approval of a supervising instructor prior to obtaining 20 contact hours of cross-cultural experience.
