The Access Program
|
|
The Access program provides an alternative entry into Calvin for students whose records indicates academic promise to be successful in college, but who do not meet regular admissions standards. Admission to become Access scholars is granted by the Committee on Admissions based on high school grades, high school coursework, ACT/SAT scores, recommendations, and other admissions materials. Enrollment for Access scholars is offered each year to a limited number of first-year students.
Selected Access scholars meet with a Center for Student Success advisor during Passport Orientation and take a mathematics placement and an English directed self-placement to determine an appropriate fall schedule.
Access scholars:
-take ASC 112 - Strategies for Academic Success concurrently with a reading-lecture course during their first semester.
-take ASC 111 - Academic Transitions in their second semester.
-work closely with academic advisors and coaches to make academic progress their first year.
