The environmental studies major serves as a foundation for a broad range of environmental careers, from environmental law to land use planning. Majors choose one of three concentrations: economics, geography, or political science. Majors may also select an alternate concentration with the approval of the environmental studies director, J. Skillen, and an advisor in that field. Students are strongly urged to do an internship as part of the major. The environmental studies minor is intended for students who are following a different major and who also have an interest in studying environmental issues at the local, national, and global levels. Because the study of such issues is truly interdisciplinary in scope, the environmental studies minor is appropriate for students majoring in business, the humanities, the social sciences, or the natural sciences. While students are encouraged to complete the entire environmental studies minor, environmental studies courses also may be taken singly as electives to enrich a program of study.
