Health Science

Healthcare delivery is a dynamic and complex problem that relies on graduates who are eager to impart meaningful change in the world around them. Students pursuing health science majors may matriculate as nurses, community educators, healthcare communicators, or within any of dozens of other roles within this landscape. While the possibilities are diverse, the importance of understanding and being able to work with other practitioners within this system has become a key competency for graduates in these fields.

Students pursuing a major in the health sciences will complete ten foundational courses in chemistry, biology, psychology, sociology, statistics, data analytics, and interprofessional discourse before continuing on to complete additional coursework in their chosen field of study. In this way, the health science foundational courses will serve as a gateway to a range of fields within the health sciences, allowing students to move easily between health science majors, as they discern their vocational calling.

Upon completion of the health science foundational courses, students will continue on to a major in nursing , kinesiology major - exercise science , pre-occupational therapy , or health communication. Students will be advised by faculty in these departments and will need to meet the specifications for graduation, beyond the health-science foundational courses, outlined by each program.
