SP. This course examines how competing philosophical approaches explain different political and economic institutions and practices, how political processes affect the functioning of markets, and how global economic institutions operate. The course investigates political and moral controversies that surround the actions of states in international institutions as well as the domestic political divisions that result from international economic forces and encourages moral and practical consideration of the purposes and limits of states and markets. POLS 217 , ECON 222 , and at least one 200-level PHIL course are recommended as preparatory. Prerequisite(s): junior or senior standing, or consent of the instructor.
