RECR 305 - Program Planning and Development (4) SP. The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of the fundamental principles and techniques of program planning and development in a variety of sport, recreation, and leisure service settings. The student will explore the role of specific programs within the life of an organization, develops a strong appreciation of program team management, culture, and development, and considers the transformative and transactional impact of well-designed programs in the lives of individuals and groups. The application of a program development model, which is used in the organization and planning of recreation programs, is emphasized. Students will design a program from the bottom up, including needs assessment, mission and goals, staffing, risk management, promotion, budget, and evaluation. Students will implement one internal event, complete a comprehensive program design plan, and conclude the course with a program proposal to internal and external stakeholders. This course is a requirement for Recreation, Sports Management, and Exercise Science majors and Recreation Leadership Minors. Prerequisite(s): sophomore status.
