SP. An introduction to historical sources, bibliography, and research techniques, giving particular attention to the different genres of history writing, critical historical thinking and the role of perspective and worldview, the mechanics of professional notation, critical use of print and electronic research data bases, organizing and writing research essays, and the vocation of the historian. Intended as preparation for 300-level courses. History majors and minors should take this course as early as possible.
