ECON 237 - Regional Economies of the World (2) FA, SP. This course examines the factors contributing to the rise and fall of nations. The course begins with a study of the role of factors such as demography, geography, distribution of income, control of resources, control of inflation, growth policy, political elements, trade patterns, culture, and institutions, focusing on the economies of low- and middle-income countries. This course also discusses the role of institutions (both political and social) in the success and failure of economies. Typically, this course will focus on one of the following regions: East Asia, the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, or Latin America. Prerequisite(s): a grade of C or better in ECON 191 .
