FA, SP, alternate years. This course provides an introduction to the visual arts of China. Arranged chronologically, the course focuses on the production of pictures, objects, gardens, and buildings in China. Particular attention will be paid to the role of religion, ritual, and erudition. The course ends with an extended exploration of contemporary Chinese art. Not offered in 2025-26.
