FA. Industrial chemistry shapes our lives and impacts the environment in many substantial ways. Along with the amazing advances that result from materials technology, many processes also negatively impact the environment. This course will address selected topics from areas of chemistry that impact our climate, our habitat, and human health. Emphasis will be on the chemistry and thermodynamics of these processes with a focus not only on the production but also on the deconstruction to assess the overall sustainability of a marquee example: the electric car. Prerequisite(s): CHEM 210, CHEM 230, CHEM 240, or CHEM 242. Corequisite(s): CHEM 371L.
