ENST 301 - American Environmentalism (2) FA. This course traces the development of American environmentalism in the late 19th and 20th centuries. It begins with dramatic transformation of the American landscape in the 19th century. After tracing early efforts to protect forests and scenery in the Progressive Era, the course explores the environmental movement in the post-war era and development of modern environmental law. While focusing on the dominant environmental movement, the course highlights marginalized environmental movements, such as the environmental justice movement. The course ends with a critical discussion of the contemporary sustainability movement. Prerequisite(s): ENST 210 or permission of the instructor.
