EDUC 241 - Inclusive Teaching: Ability, Language, and Multicultural Education (4) FA, SP. This course provides insight into learners with diverse ability and linguistic background. It includes study of the role of culture in language development and academic achievement; second language development theories for classroom organization and pedagogy; characteristics of students with identified disability; and the history of special education, individualized planning, and pedagogy. A Christian view of persons is developed to counteract deficit thinking, recognize the gifts of all students, and identify human and linguistic difference as asset. Twelve hours will be spent outside of class in observation of K-12 school programs. Prerequisite(s): EDUC 103 or permission of the instructor.
