HIST 280 - Introduction to Archaeology (4) FA. An introduction to the study of the human past through the material evidence that has been left behind. Archaeology will be introduced as a historical and anthropological endeavor that seeks to document the past and create new histories through the critical and contextual evaluation of both material and documentary sources. The course emphasizes the global history of archaeology, archaeological theory and methods, interpretation, site conservation, relevant legal frameworks, and the ways archaeology serves as a bridge between historical disciplines and the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Upon completion, students will be prepared to participate in archaeological field work. The course serves as a prerequisite for HIST 380 . Crosslisted as IDIS 240 .
