GEO 152 - Historical Geology (3) SP. Historical geology is a discipline that uses the principles and methods of geology to reconstruct the geological history of Earth. This course studies the vastness of geologic time and investigates changes in Earth, gradual and sudden, over this deep time. Preserved evidence of past geologic events and history of life is discussed; this includes interpreting fossil records and rock records to better understand events that took place in the past. Topics include the origin of Earth and its moon, the origin of continents and ocean basins, the creation of mountain ranges through history, the formation of major sedimentary deposits, and Earth’s climate history. Prerequisite(s): GEO 120 , GEO 151 , or GEO 153 . Corequisite(s): GEO 152L .
