SP. ARTH 141 satisﬁes three hours of Calvin’s Core requirement for Arts and Rhetoric, introducing key artistic developments in Western art from the politically revolutionary era around 1800 to the social revolutions of the 1960s. Artists examined include Turner, Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, Matisse, Kahlo, and Calder. Questions of modernity—both modern art and modern life—anchor the course, from Romanticism to the Harlem Renaissance to Pop Art.
