FA. ARTH 131 satisﬁes three hours of Calvin’s Core requirement for Arts and Rhetoric, introducing some of the most notable paintings, prints and sculpture produced in Europe from the Renaissance to 1800. The course considers how artistic styles and genres served societal and cultural priorities. Artists include the very famous and the less famous. Gender and the status of women artists are important themes.
