ECON 236 - Emerging Economies (3) FA. An examination of the economies of key emerging nations: China, India, Brazil, and Indonesia. The course starts with an overview of the global economy and the international financial system. Students consider how legal, technological, political, and cultural environments influence economic and business relations between countries. The benefits of trade, national trade policies and international cooperation are explored. Each of the four emerging nations is examined within this broad context, focusing on relevant economic history, transition to a market-oriented economy, current institutions, opportunities, and challenges. This course satisfies requirements for the global and historical studies core category. Prerequisite: ECON 151 or ECON 221 and ECON 222. (ECON 222 may be taken concurrently with this course.)
