BIOL 161 - Cellular and Genetic Systems

SP. A presentation of the basic concepts in cellular and molecular biology and genetics. Topics include: structure and function of cells and macromolecules; energy and metabolism; cell division and regulation; DNA replication, transcription and translation; genetics; control of gene expression; and cellular mechanisms of development. Students develop critical thinking skills by applying these concepts to a broad array of bioscience problems. Laboratories consist of integrative science research projects that instill scientific competencies and proficiency with the prevailing methodologies in the cellular and molecular biosciences. Lectures. Prerequisites: CHEM 103 (or equivalent). Corequisite: BIOL 161L.
