FA, SP. An introduction to basic photographic techniques and the process of black and white photography including camera operation, film processing, printing, and presentation. Course work emphasizes visual problems and solutions specific to photography, such as flatness, frame, time, and focus. The ability to produce photographic images with visual effectiveness through control and execution of the media is stressed. Visual and technical abilities will be reinforced through readings, discussions, demonstrations, critiques, and lectures. The history of photography and critical approaches to the media will be introduced and inform the context of study. No prerequisite. Materials fee
